Bills Draft Virginia Tech DE

The Bills started day two of the NFL draft Sunday by selecting defensive end Chris Ellis from Virginia Tech with the 72nd overall pick. Ellis, a 6-4, 260 pounder, was named first-team all ACC in 2007 with 8.5 sacks and 38 pressures, and had 22 sacks in his career.

With their two picks in the fourth round, the Bills selected CB Reggie Corner from Akron and TE Derek Fine from Kansas. At 5-10, 180 lbs, Corner is a little undersized, but had 15 interceptions in 48 career games with the Zips. Fine had 46 catches for 394 yards for the Jayhawks in 2007. At 6-3, 245 lbs, Fine could also see time at fullback and played special teams for Kansas.

Iowa State LB Alvin Bowen was the Bills 5th round choice. Bowen led the nation in solo tackles as a junior in 2006 with 95. Last season, the 6-1, 223 pounder was named first-team All-Big 12 with 155 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions.

In the sixth round, the Bills grabbed Northwest Missouri State running back Xavier Omon. Omon led Division II in rushing with 2,337 yards and an incredible 37 TD's in 2007. The 5-11, 226-pounder ran for over 1,500-yards in four college seasons.

With the first of three picks in the seventh and final round, the Bills grabbed 6-5, 301-pound OL Devetrius Bell from Northwestern State, then took Kentucky WR Steve Johnson. Johnson had 60 catches for 1,041 yards and 13 TD's last season. They wrapped up the draft by taking Pitt CB Kennard Cox with the second-to-last pick the entire draft.
