Tech puts 5 on preseason All-ACC team
Virginia Tech led all schools with five players voted to the preseason All-ACC football team, which was voted on by the media at this week's ACC Football Kickoff. Running back Branden Ore, an Indian River graduate, was the most popular Hokie, finishing second in the Player of the Year voting. Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan took home that honor, receiving 31 votes to Branden Ore's 21. "Branden Ore is a great one," said Georgia Tech's Tashard Choice, the other all-conference pick at running back. "He's going to have a nice career at the next level."
Other Tech players on the team were offensive tackle Duane Brown, cornerback Brandon Flowers and linebackers Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall (Western Branch). On Monday, Hokies coach Frank Beamer called Hall and Adibi the best linebacker tandem to play at Virginia Tech. The Hokies were the overwhelming pick to win the league in voting done earlier in the week, so it was no surprise that Tech had two more All-ACC picks than the next closest teams. Florida State and Miami each had three selections, while Virginia had a pair in tight end Tom Santi and defensive end Chris Long.
