The West Virginia Conference will take advantage of West Liberty University’s broadcast media technology when the WVIAC brings its annual Football Media Day to the Hilltopper campus on Saturday, Aug. 1.
For the first time in league history, the traditional kickoff to the WVIAC football season will be televised live to more than 40,000 Comcast cable subscribers in the Northern Panhandle through the facilities of West Liberty’s WLTV-14. The media conference, which is set for a noon start, will also be streamed live on the internet to WVIAC football fans everywhere.
Reid Amos, the voice of the Hilltoppers and executive director of the University’s Office of Communications, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. All nine of the league’s head football coaches will be on hand to talk about their teams’ prospects for the 2009 season. Results of the WVIAC’s annual preseason coaches’ poll will also be announced.
The WVIAC season kicks off with a pair of games on Thursday, Aug. 27 as defending league champion Glenville State hosts Stonehill (Mass.) while Clarion (Pa.) travels to Fairmont State.
West Liberty is set to open its season on Saturday, Aug. 29 when Coach Roger Waialae’s Hilltoppers head north to challenge nationally-ranked Edinboro (Pa.) in a 1:30 p.m. tilt. The Fighting Scots were ranked No. 5 in the Sporting News College Football Preview.
