QB from Richmond commits to Hokies
Joseph Clayton, a 6-foot, 195-pound quarterback from Hermitage High in Richmond, committed Wednesday to Virginia Tech.
Clayton, who goes by the nickname "Ju-Ju," likely will grayshirt and plans to enroll in January 2009 at Tech. When a player grayshirts, freshman enrollment is deferred to help a college football program organize its scholarship numbers or to give the player more time to develop. In accepting the scholarship from Tech, Clayton turned down an appointment from Army.
Last season, Clayton completed 153 of 255 passes for 2,117 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Central Region Division 6 champion Panthers. He's the 29th player to commit to Tech for enrollment in '08 or '09.
Feb. 6 is the first day recruits can sign a letter-of-intent with a university for enrollment in '08.
