The West Liberty Hilltoppers stayed alive for a shot to share the West Virginia Conference title with a 26-24 win over the University of Charleston at Russek Field.
The Hilltoppers(6-4) (5-2) can forge a four-way tie for the conference title with a win next Saturday at Seton Hill, and a Charleston win over Glenville State.
There hasn't even been a shared title in the WVC since 2000.
West Liberty kicker Billy Haager became the West Virginia Conference's all-time leading kick scorer with a 39-yard field goal in the first quarter. He finished the game with two field goals and two extra points, giving him 270 career points, and surpassing West Virginia Wesleyan kicker Eric Myers from 1996.
West Liberty trailed 17-13 in the fourth quarter when quarterback Zach Amedro connected with Johnny Bonar for a 15-yard touchdown. An Amedro to Ryan Travis hook up produced a big gainer inside the two yard line, which set up a Branden Ore one-yard touchdown run.
Charleston made it interesting with a touchdown late in the fourth, but the ensuing onside kick was recovered by Bonar, and the Hilltoppers ran out the clock.
Amedro passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
